Digital Accessibility Apprentice
About Jacques
Jacques Chappell is a Digital Accessibility Apprentice with a strong foundation in accessibility and a passion for creating equitable digital experiences. After losing his vision in his mid-twenties, Jacques built on his lived experience and technical expertise to forge a new path in accessibility. His journey began with earning foundational certifications through Deque University, completing Blind Institute of Technology’s Digital Accessibility Analyst course, and achieving his CPACC certification from the International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP).
When he’s not working on accessibility projects, Jacques enjoys spending time with his girlfriend and daughter, tackling LEGO builds with accessible instructions, experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen, and playing games. With a commitment to continuous learning and a natural curiosity, Jacques is excited to help organizations build more equitable and user-friendly digital spaces.

We sat down with Jacques, here’s what he had to say
What motivated you to apply to BIT’s apprenticeship program?
I was motivated to apply to the BIT apprenticeship program because I wanted to gain work experience, bringing together the hands-on auditing skills and knowledge learned. It was at the time for me the one missing piece.
What’s one skill you learned during your apprenticeship?
I feel like I may have learned more than one skill during my apprenticeship, but the one that really sticks out to me as developing continually is my writing skills and the ways I have learned how to be descriptive.
How has your view of your own capabilities changed since joining BIT?
I feel that my view of my own capabilities has grown, and that I have some skills and experience to know what to do or who to ask for help if needed.
What kind of work excites you most in your field?
The work that excites me the most is auditing websites, especially if it’s a new project – each is unique and different.
Why would any organization be lucky to have you on their team?
I think any organization would be lucky to have me as a part of their team because I am hard working, determined and enjoy the field of accessibility.
